One of my favourite brands, Boot’ No. 7, is 75 years old this year, and to celebrate, they’ve just launched their Decades Collection, which allows you to recreate some of the most iconic looks from the past seven decades. Using the most popular colours from each decade, the collection comprises eye, lip and nail colours, and there’s also a £14 ‘Hero’ compact which sums up the No. 7 look. My favourite of the looks created by No7 creative director and make-up artist, Lisa Eldridge, would have to be the 1960s face (above), which uses the products pictured below, although I’m also loving the red lips and nails of the 1940s look, too. Boots No. 7 new Lift & Luminate skincare collection
For my money, Boots’ No. 7 skin creams are right up there beside some of the high-end brands in terms of quality. Of course, they’re not cheap: in fact, they fall into a price bracket that’s not too far off that of some of the aforementioned high-end brands, but having been pretty much raised on No. 7 (my mum has been a fan for as long as I can remember and I swear by their Protect & Perfect range), I’m always interested in a new release in the skincrae line. This one is called “Lift and Luminate”. I bet you can’t guess what it does, can you? Yes! It lifts and… luminates the skin! Aimed at the “more mature woman”, here’s what Boots have to say about the line:
So far, so like Protect & Perfect, then, but as this is aimed at a slightly older demographic, Boots say it will also make the skin feel firmer, rather than “just” reducing the appearance of wrinkles. As you’ll have noticed from the blurb above, they also say this will happen in just four weeks, which makes me wonder if it’ll sell out as quickly as P&P did when it was originally launched, too. I should say first of all that I’ve never really been a “tinted moisturiser” kinda girl. In fact, I think I’ve owned about two tubes of the stuff in my entire life, and both of those were “retired” having barely been used. As those of you who’ve read my “Friday Face” posts will know, I’m just not much of a one for the natural look! All of this is to say that I wasn’t really expecting to like this product as much as I did. As it’s a moisturiser rather than a foundation, it’s obviously going to only give a light coverage: despite this, though, it did even out my skin tone, and left my face looking fresh and, dare I say it, a little bit dewy. Yes, dewy. I was expecting to feel a little bit “bare faced” with this on rather than my usual foundation, but actually, that hasn’t been the case, which is perhaps a sign that I don’t really need to wear as much foundation as I think I do! The only issue for me is the colour. I’m using this in “Fair”, which is slightly darker than I’d usually go for, and if, like me, you have super-pale skin, I’d say it’ll probably won’t be a good match for you: despite being happy with the coverage, I’ll probably get most use out of it during the summer, when the rest of my skin has a bit of (fake) colour to it, rather than in the winter, when I typically resemble a vampire. The product goes on nicely, absorbs quickly and has none of the greasiness I’d normally have associated with a moisturiser. A few hours after applying it, my skin feels soft and comfortable. If you have spots to cover, or generally go for a heavy coverage foundation, this probably won’t work for you, but if you’re looking for something light and easy to wear, it could be worth a shot. Boots No. 7 Wild Volume Lipstick – for fuller, smoother lips
Boots No.7′s new Wild Volume lipstick promises to make your lips look fuller and smoother, but this is NOT a lip plumper, so those of you who’re tired of shelling out for products that sting a whole lot but don’t make much of a difference to the appearance of your lips can relax. Instead of irritating the lips in a bid to plump them up, this simply uses a creamy formula to fill in lines and creases, and make your lips look full and smooth. Simple, but (hopefully) effective. I've spoken of my love for the Boots Protect & Perfect Range many times here, and I almost feel like this skin and body set has been sent purely to test my powers of resistance. It's £48.98, which is actually pretty good value when you consider that inside the little vanity case, you'll find: · Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum, 30ml This would make a great gift, but it would also be a good introduction to the brand if you haven't got round to trying it yet. At this time of year I’m normally looking for more coverage on my face rather than less (tinted moisturiser always strikes me as a summer product rather than a winter one), but our Indian Summer has been continuing here in Scotland (!) and I’ve been making the most of it and trying out
