I’ve read a lot recently about matte nail polish, and how it’s going to be super-popular this winter, but I have to say, I’m just not convinced.  OPI have “mattfied” six of their shades, and from the swatches I’ve seen, it just hasn’t worked out too well: the white looks like Tippex/Whiteout, the green has a very “witchy” look to it, and all of the shades look somehow very chalky to me. Of course, it could just be that it’s not what I’m used to, but… I don’t think so.

The shades available from OPI are La Paz-itively Hot, Gargantuan Green Grape, Russian Navy, Alpine Snow,  You Don’t Know Jacques! and Lincoln Park After Dark, and personally I think all six would look better in their gloss finish (except maybe the Gargantuan Green Grape, which I can’t imagine looking good with any finish). If you’re thinking of trying them out, though, be aware that they won’t last as long as normal polishes, and OPI say they work better on their own than with a base coat.
