Anyway, I’ve been using both products for a few weeks now, and have been pretty impressed. The razors are from the Soleil Scent range, and are amazingly good value for money, given that you get a pack of four for £2.99. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t tend to spend a lot of money on razors anyway, and generally find that the cheap disposables do a good enough job for me. The nice thing about these ones is that although they’re certainly cheap, they don’t feel or look cheap: they’re satisfyingly smooth and chunky and they come in a range of pretty colours, which obviously doesn’t make a bit of difference to the performance, but does make me smile, because I’m superficial like that. As for the performance, they score well there, too. My one criticism is that I don’t notice any scent from these unless I press my nose to the handle. Which isn’t something I tend to do all that often, I must admit! Admittedly, the scent is a nice one (sweet and floral, I’d say, although I don’t have much of a nose for scents!), but as I always shave my legs in the shower, it does get lost amongst all of the other scented products in there! More importantly, however, these razors are easy to use: they give a nice, smooth shave, and are a good shape for getting around those awkward areas like knees and ankles. I’ve been using then with Big Soleil Lady Gel, which contains Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, and leaves my legs feeling soft. It has a more noticeable smell, and it’s a lovely one, too: I’ve also been impressed by how long it’s lasted so far – it comes out of the can as a gel, but quickly lathers up into a rich foam, so a little goes a long way. It costs about £3, and is available from chemists, supermarkets and all the usual suspects! Beauty Question: Do you shave your legs in the winter?
Following on from yesterday’s post about bikini lines and their general maintenance, I have another hair-removal question for you all, this time about legs. Do you shave/wax your legs during the winter? The reason I ask is because, at around about this time every year, I start to hear and read a lot of comments from women to the effect of “it’s a shame that summer’s over, but at least we can stop shaving our legs now!” And this has always surprised me a little, because even although my legs are generally hidden underneath trousers or tights during the colder months, it’s never actually occurred to me to stop shaving them: partly because it only takes a few minutes in the shower anyway, but mostly because it’s such an ingrained part of my daily routine now that I wouldn’t feel properly “groomed” without doing it. Oh, and also because the hairs on my legs are blond, and blonde hair poking out through black opaque tights isn’t a good look, trust me. What about you? Do you look forward to lower-maintenance legs in the winter, or is shaving or waxing a year-round occupation? Maybe you don’t bother at all and just leave them the way nature intended? Tell me! Bikini Goddess 5 Day Challenge, Part 1 – Gillette Venus Embrace
Readers, let’s talk about bikini lines. No, this isn’t part of a new passion for over-sharing, it’s just that last week Gillette asked me to take part in their 5 day Bikini Goddess Challenge, testing out the Venus Embrace and the Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women Bikini and seeing how well they work on the ol’ bikini line. Now, quick confession first: this wasn’t exactly a departure for me, because I tend to use a razor on my bikini line anyway. Regular professional waxing is too time-consuming and expensive for me (not to mention the fact that I have a super-low pain threshold), and I’m in the shower every day anyway, so shaving it is. I’ve been using the Venus Embrace in conjunction with Gillette’s Satin Care Shave Gel in Avocado Mist. I’ve reviewed both of these before, and been impressed with them, and I’m happy to report that they work just as well on the bikini line as they do anywhere else on the body. Obviously the last thing you want is a shaving rash peeking out of your bikini bottoms – * shudder* – but these leave the skin smooth and soft: no stubble, no rash, no tell-tale ingrown hairs. Also, the Venus Embrace is such a gentle razor to use that it would be pretty hard to cut yourself with it either: I’ve been using this razor for a while now, and I haven’t cut myself yet, and if I can’t do it, I don’t expect you will, either. So, a good result for Gillette! Next week I’ll be trying out the Wilkinson Sword Quattro for women, but in the meantime, tell me: how do you deal with your bikini line – shave? Wax? A depilatory cream? Or do you prefer the au natural look?
