Tarte MultiplEYE Lash Enhancer

There are so many products on the market at the moment that promise to give you naturally long, luscious lashes, and as tempting as that thought is, the one thing they all seem to have in common is the fact that they’re all really expensive, which makes me reluctant to splash out on them in case they don’t actually work.

Tarte, however, is a brand I’ve been impressed with in the past, so I’m a little more likely to hand over my hard-earned cash to them, than to than a brand I’ve never heard of. Their MultiplEYE Lash Enhancer is $65, but they DO make the claim that 100% of test subjects reported an increase in softness and length on their lashes, with 90% reporting an increase in thickness.

These results are achieved using ingredients like soy, cellulose and vitamin C. This makes me wonder again why, exactly, it needs to be so expensive, but if the results are as good as the brand suggests, I guess that’s my answer! If you’d like to try it out for yourself, you can buy it at Sephora.

tarte-lights-camera-lashesI don’t often get my hopes up about new mascaras these days.

Oh, don’t get me wrong: I’m still more than happy with my usual Lancome and Fiberwig combo, but each new mascara I review usually leaves me feeling decidedly underwhelmed, which is why Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes! came as such a pleasant surprise.

I wasn’t expecting much. This is billed as a “4-in-one” mascara, claiming to lengthen, curl, volumize AND condition, acting as “a push up bra for your lashes”. So it had a lot to live up to, basically. With the possible exception of the “conditioning” claim (I’ve only used it twice, so it hasn’t really had a chance to make much difference to the actual condition of my lashes, although it may well deliver on that front too, given time), I actually think it delivers on all of those. Yes, I know, it surprised me, too.

Let’s see…

It curls. I didn’t curl my lashes before applying it in the pictures above, and, as you can see, it has definitely curled them. So that’s one box checked.

It lengthens. Yep: Mr Dollface actually asked me if I was wearing what he referred to as “eyelash extensions” today, so I’d say it’s done some good there, too. Another box checked.

It volumises. I had to be careful with this one. I like my lashes long and spidery, so the temptation for me is to layer on the mascara like there’s no tomorrow. And that can obviously lead to clumpiness, which you can see a bit of on my right eye. I used less product on the left eye, and got less clumping, but less volume, too. There is a happy medium somewhere between the two, though, and I managed to arrive at that the first time I used this mascara, although I didn’t take photos on that occasion.

Overall, I really liked this and would definitely buy it again. I don’t often say that about mascara, so that’s high praise indeed. You can buy this at www.sephora.com, where it costs $18.

tarte-dark-circle-defense

I haven’t been getting a whole lot of sleep lately, and because I’m someone who needs a LOT of sleep, the result is that I now have dark circles under my eyes that actually look like they’ve been painted on. My regular arsenal of dark-circle-fighting cosmetics have totally failed to cover these, and when that happens, I know it’s time to get more sleep.

Because this is a beauty blog, though, and because sometimes it just isn’t possible to drop everything and go and sleep for a week, I’ve also done a bit of searching for new products that could help my plight, and that’s how I came across Tarte’s Dark Circle Defense. Obviously the name of this product instantly drew me in, but the product description is pretty enticing too, throwing around phrases like “eight hours of sleep in a compact” and “camouflage dark circles”.

Dark circles aren’t the only things being targeted, though: this also claims to reduce puffiness around the eyes in four weeks, and to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, which also like to come out to taunt me when I’m not feeling my best.

The formula itself is an all-natural mineral powder, so it should be kind to the skin, too. It’s $32 from Tarte, but I think I’ll try getting some old fashioned SLEEP before I start spending money.
